The Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions and provincial nurses’ unions across the country are organizing a national day of action to demand urgent government action fixing Canada’s nursing crisis. The day of action will be held on Friday, September 17, just days before Canadians head to the polls in the federal election. It will feature rallies, protests and pickets at various sites across the country.
Seventeen months into a deadly pandemic, and more than a decade into a chronic nursing shortage, nurses and healthcare staff are overworked, burnt out, and suffering moral distress because there are not enough nurses, and other healthcare workers, to provide the care patients deserve.
Without urgent measures by provincial and federal governments to address the nursing shortage and untenable working conditions, things will only get worse as more workers consider leaving their jobs.
